
According to the German firm, the latest version of the V8 powerplant complies with EU5 emissions laws with the help of a new recuperation system that conserves energy during coasting and braking.
The updated V8 is not only cleaner but also slightly more powerful delivering 430-horsepower (+10HP) with a maximum torque of 430Nm (317.2 lb-ft) arriving at 4,500 rpm and sustained through to 6,000 rpm.
In conjunction with both the standard six-speed manual transmission and the optional six-speed S tronic automated manual, the latest R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro can accelerate from standstill to 62mph (100km/h) in 4.8 seconds, and reach a top speed of 186mph or 299 km/h.
